NEW YORK REAL ESTATE SALESPERSON FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

New York Real Estate Salesperson License Requirements
  • U.S. Citizen or an alien lawfully admitted for permanent residence.
  • Minimum age of 18 years old to get a salesperson’s license; 20 years old to obtain broker’s license.
  • No previous experience is required to apply for a salesperson’s license.
  • Salespersons must get a real estate license in NY and take 77 hour New York real estate Salesperson Licensing Course.
  • Salespersons who completed the 45-hour salesperson qualifying course prior to July 1, 2008 are only required to complete the 30 hour remedial course to get licensed.
  • Salespersons and Brokers must pass the state real estate exam.
  • Salespersons must be sponsored by a New York State licensed real estate broker.
  • Broker’s license applicants must have at least 2 years of full time experience as an active licensed real estate salesperson or at least three years of full time experience in the general real estate field.
